TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE: IGEDE TRIBE, BENUE STATE, NIGERIA

By Dr Cheryl Udomessien Posted on June 21, 2020November 8, 2020 2 Comments 2 min read 9963 views

Today’s Rainbow Post features the traditional marriage (popularly known as TM) of an Igede bride which took place in Benue State, Oju L.G.A., precisely in the bride’s village “Uje” Anchim.

Marriage is a beautiful thing ordained by God and the process to becoming Mr & Mrs as well! No wonder the bride, Iyeka Jennifer Onah, and groom, Jonathan Michael Yilkwat looked very stunning.

Here’s what the bride has to say in her own words: “My first outing was the purple outfit where my husband (then fiance) and I were introduced. I was asked if I will accept his proposal to be joined to him and obviously, I said YES. Thereafter I gave him kolanut & wine which signify acceptance.”

“The second outing was the yellow outfit dressed in Igede Attire. I went round greeting the elders, my fathers & mothers and also our well wishers. Afterwards I was asked to dress up my husband with my attire which I did. It was a simple but gorgeous celebration.”

ENJOY!!!
