BREAK THE BOXES!

Though not in the literal sense but, to me, the “box” defines any practice, culture or standard born out of a narrow view of an entity. My emphasis, particularly, is on the unnecessary gender pressure we encounter on a daily basis; guys specifically.

A very common thing in our society today is the artificial engineering of humans to produce clones- people robbed of their idealism.

“Guys shouldn’t bargain in the market, it’s feminine,”

“Why do you like pink, are you a lady?”

“why you like kitchen work like this, you be woman?”

“You too like take pictures, you be woman?”

“Why you dey drink malt, you be babe?”

“Guy you dey take time to dress like woman”

“See as you buy cream full table, you be woman?”

I doubt if I’ve exhausted all the useless judgements some shortsighted, narrow-minded folks pass on a daily basis. I hear them and I’m like…uuuggghhh 😡😡, get some sense!

They have painted a picture of the “typical” guy to do and like things a certain way, and anything outside the constructed “guy box” means you are less of the person you should be.

Guys, generally, have learnt to normalize these idiosyncrasies and erroneously incorporated it into a societal behavioral code; deny themselves what truly resonate with their person, and nose-dive into trimming off all that deviates from what the society has prescribed, even their most authentic selves.

Some have wandered far away from themselves to a very miserable gully, a gully of self-denial and crushed esteem. Forgetting God’s purpose for moulding them into the shape they assumed.

Dear guy, you are the artist of your life. God holds the model. So you fix your gaze on Him while putting your brushes to their best use. Don’t let society hold the brush!

It is okay if you don’t like soccer, you’re perfectly fine if you’re naturally kind and compassionate, nothing is wrong if you prefer acrobatics to heavyweight lifting, wear that pink colour if your heart desires it, It’s okay to watch Telemundo instead of WrestleMania, you’re free to like whatever! It’s perfectly fine to prefer Home Economics as a course over Mechanical engineering, you’re totally okay!

You don’t even have to engage in that physical combat to prove your strength!

No, nothing is wrong with you! As long as you’re in line with God’s creative intent, you’re fine! God didn’t set those limits, no, he didn’t make those boxes, humans did! Break out of them. Be you!
